GROUP ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

Symbols has adapted key elements of the one-to-one Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach to develop a small group reading and writing enrichment class for children with standard learning capabilities (i.e. no apparent learning disabilities). This class is ideal for helping young children to build an interest in reading and writing, teaching them important and effective reading and writing skills, rules and tricks in a fun and encouraging learning environment. This class was developed and is instructed by a BC-certified teacher and certified Orton Gillingham tutor.

 

Details

This class is intended for 5 -7 year-olds, and will help students to improve skills and develop an interest in reading and writing in a fun, welcoming learning environment.

Students attend class on four consecutive Saturdays and may be registered in any one of the following sessions in Fall 2008:

  • 10am-12pm starting October 18th
  • 1pm-3pm starting October 18th
  • 10am-12pm starting November 15th
  • 1pm-3pm starting November 15th

Class size is limited to 8 students, so register today! The course fee of $290 plus GST includes registration, classroom materials and take-home packages.

 

Results

Upon completing the class, parents can expect their children to:

  • know and understand how to apply spelling rules such as the 1-1-1 Doubling Rule and Two Vowel Reading Rule.
  • know and understand vocabulary associated with the structure of language and that aids in implementing spelling rules (e.g. suffixes, prefixes and short and long vowels).
  • know the basic components of a proper sentence (nouns, verbs, capitals and periods).
  • have completed a short composition.
  • have had a fun, memorable learning experience intended to build a positive association with reading and writing.

Please note that this class is not intended for children with learning differences. Children with learning differences should be enrolled in our 1-to-1 Orton-Gillingham tutoring.
